In normal weather conditions, the characteristic thermal breeze known as the Embat, a Southwesterly wind which starts to pick up around midday, has an average strength of 15 to 20 knots and spreads across the bay until sunset. Therefore, the winds in the Bay of Palma are in general lighter, but can intensify sporadically in winter due to northern weather changes. When this occurs the natural protection which is given by the mountains of up to 1000m of the Sierra de Tramuntana, allow training in the Bay of Palma to continue as normal. Under the usual marina breeze conditions in the Bay of Palma, tides are non-existent and surface currents are constant, rarely exceeding 6cm/s. Nice during summer, just shorts.
