A protected sound with flat and shallow water. Reefs and coral heads around the edges but deep water in most of the sound. Little traffic, but be alert for charter boats mooring daily. The water is always clean, clear and beautiful. Limited launching beaches, talk with locals about sites. Best launch is in the middle of the sound from a dingy. A protected sound exposed to the prevailing easterly trades which funnel between the islands and pick up speed. There are two major passes which the wind blows through, East and Southeast. The wind is strongest in the winter. Outside temperature gets up to and above 90°F in the summer. Water: Shallow, Flat. Features: Rooms, School, Shop, Repair. Rider ability: Beginner.
