Atins is a uniquely paradise-like spot at the mouth of the Rio Preguiças, offering a vast lagoon of warm flat water at low tide plus ocean-side waves. Bordered by the towering dunes of Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, it is a wild playground, windy from July to January, ideal for freeride and foiling.

The main hazard at Atins is extremely powerful tidal currents at the river mouth, combined with abrupt depth changes and the spot's remoteness, which makes rescue difficult if you drift downwind.
Riding is mainly governed by Lençóis Maranhenses National Park's protected-area status: sessions in the desert lagoons require a certified local guide and authorized 4x4 or quad transport for gear.
