Lake Michigan / Muskegon Pierre Marquette

The south side of the pier provides excellent flat water riding on North and Northwest days. South, Southwest, and West days can generate quite a bit of chop especially near the mole. Very long and open beach. Parking allows easy access to the water along a 3/4 of a mile long strip of beach. Plenty of room in the off-season to launch/land kites. The beach may be crowed during the summer months, but in most instances a safe and open launch site can be found. The beach is all sand, and there are no underwater obstructions. Best wind directions: NW, W, SW, S. Summer winds are generally lighter, allowing riding 2 days a week normally. Full wetsuit required during the spring and fall. Water temps in the summer can reach the low 70s°F but can plummet to the mid 50s°F after a few days of strong winds out of the east. Air temps in the 40s and 50s°F spring and fall, and in the 70s and 80s°F during the summer. Season is generally 1st of April through end of October. Water: Flat, Chop. Features: Toilet, Parking.
