The Basin

Flat water, very tiny chop, glassy water conditions often. Less chop than Hatteras. Water quality is brackish river water and ocean water. Small beach, glass in the sand. Must share with Kayaks. Best in SW wind. SW is the magic wind direction. Any forecast from the SW is a sure thing for wind. Wind funnels past Cape Fear and up the river creating higher winds than surrounding areas. In summer winds often match Hatteras for reliability. Works in winds from S to NW. Winter brings NW wind and glassy speed runs along the rock wall separating the Basin from the river. Hot water in summer 85°F. Air temperatures range from 80-95°F. Winter average is 55°F. Close to South Carolina. Warmer than Hatteras, water and air. Water: Shallow, Flat. Features: Toilet, Parking.
