Currents can be strong at mid-tide if you stray too far from the beach into the channel. At high tide self launch can be tricky as the water gets deep quite quickly. If the wind is more northerly, then you can walk north about 300m where there is a shallow bay (more like a kink in the shoreline) and this has some shallower water and a better direction for the wind.
