The location is protected by the pier of Sandringham Yacht Club, which provides flat water surfing. Beyond the pier it gets choppy in the Southwesterly sea breeze. Give plenty of room to the lifesaving club swimming area. Nice and wide beach with no hard objects. Plenty of space to launch as long as you stay away from the beach goers by the life saving club. The beach faces WSW. Best direction is SSW-SSE which is the common sea breeze direction. Picks up reliably around 3-5 pm and stays up until sunset around 8:30 pm. The breeze is pretty constant at 15-20 knts. During January to February you can kitesurf 75% of the afternoons, the rest of the summer 50%, but the wind is more unreliable and gustier. Can be very gusty and light on the inside in S-SSE. Always smoother air and more wind out past the breakwater. Sideshore: NNW and SSE. Air temperature 18-35°C and water temperature 20°C. Summer wetsuit recommended but not needed. Winter is ok, air 13-22°C and water 13-15°C. Water: Flat, Chop. Features: Shop, Toilet. Rider ability: Intermediate, Expert.
