Water depth becomes overhead within 30 meters from shore. Good for hydrofoil. Waist-high blown-out waves on 20+ kts days, but beware that the shorebreak is very close to trees. Beware August's harmful algae blooms - if you can easily see a matte of algae on the surface, stay out of the water. It is most concentrated at the shore and will be obvious. NIce big lawn to rig and launch, but there are trees right at the shoreline, making it challenging to get in the water and away from land with a kite in the air. (Kites are frequently treed here.) This spot is best with nearly straight-onshore winds, which make it difficult to get away from the beach and waterstart. Wave action increases this difficulty. There is a parking lot thermal effect at the launch lawn, but doesn't extend to the water, so sunny days often feel less windy in the water than on land. Sensor at Sterling State Park is inland and not reliable. See sensors at Detroit River or Toledo Light 2 and subtract 4kt. Even the locals get skunked here a lot. Lake will freeze Jan/Feb/Mar Water: Chop, Smallwave. Features: Toilet, Parking. Rider ability: Intermediate, Expert.
