Excellent waves. As with most of the Durban beaches there is consistent surf year round. Look out for surfers as there are often a few around in the lighter winds. All of Durban's beaches are shark netted. Sandy beach. Lots of space. Umhlanga works from NNE through to SW. The windy season for Durban runs from about September to March but has wind throughout the year. The prevailing wind is NNE (sideonshore). Durban is situated on the East Coast of South Africa and enjoys a warm sub-tropical climate year-round with temperatures in the mid to low twenties even in winter. Water about 20°C.
