Depending upon the tide, mixture of waves off shore (300m). Further out in the channel between the mainland and Kapiti Island big rolling swell is common. Waves up to 1.5-2m most common. Large sandy beach, many areas to launch most go by the river mouth, few people normally around. Beach approx 8 km long. Gets most of the wind from fronts as the squeeze through Cooks Straight. Blows most days 10-15 knts. Summer months, October to April around 20+°C, best May to June marginal and July to October winter months it's cold (10-14°C), but possible to ride. Water: Chop, Smallwave, Mediumwave. Features: Toilet, Parking. Rider ability: Beginner, Intermediate, Expert.
